MySearchDial has reset my settings across multiple browsers. I removed the program, I have fixed my home page and removed the site from the list of possible search engines, but when I open a new "blank" tab, it is still opening with MySearchDial features. I have tried the SearchReset extension, it didn't work. I've tried the about:config newtab url, that didn't work either.

How do I reset this??

Could you take a second look at about:config?

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If you check the browser.newtab.url preference, what is it set to? These are the typical things:

  • Page thumbnails (default) => about:newtab
  • Blank tab => about:blank
  • Built-in Firefox home page => about:home
  • Any other page => full URL to the page

If it already is set correctly but you still get a blank page MySearchDial, one of your other extensions may be the problem.

You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable...

If it indicates that it is locked or refuses to save any changes, check the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program for a program named Search Protect and remove that. A locked preference also can indicate the presence of a mozilla.cfg file. If you suspect that, please post back for futher assistance, as simply removing that file can cause problems.

That did it! It was hiding in the "extensions" area. Thanks so much!
