Where do Firfox get the urls for the thumbnails in the New Tab Page from?

The question (and very close to it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1026044?esab=a&as=aaq ) is, how can I control the urls, which are used for the thumbnails in the New Tab Page?

Even if you delete a site in the history, Firfox might keep this site in the thumbnails, so I would like to know where they are stored and whether there are different options to control them, apart from clicking them away in the New Tab Page?

Thanks!

Hi baerIn, It is possible to pin the urls on the new tab page. What is interesting in 34 is if you have Classic selected the tiles below appear but they are not drag-gable. (sorry for the tangent).

In the about:config page there is an entry of listed pinned tabs.

browser.newtabpage.pinned

In that entry you can add an remove the urls displayed.
