suddenly when I click on firefox, it comes up with Yahoo as an overlay. Says Yahoo on top right, and the first window is now yahoo instead of my own home page and I can't get away from it. how do I remove yahoo?

Debapriya Bhattacharya Please read that blog article again.

It is not December yet and will not be until Firefox 34.0 Release which will be on December 2nd.

The Yahoo could be due to a recent external application install or update that installed a search engine and homepage on Firefox. AVG has been one of those causes.

First thing to do is to install this extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ It will "do its thing" automatically, then remove itself after a Firefox restart.

Then if that Yahoo homepage comes back after a Firefox restart or a Windows boot or restart, see us for further "fixes"; BTW, Firefox does come with a Yahoo search engine.

It depends upon what Malware was installed and how deeply.
