Today a popup opened up while firefox was running informing me that I should update to 38.0.5, is this a new feature? Normally when there's an update, firefox asks to update right when I try to launch it, it's never opened a popup while it was already running before.

hi Wizzlbang, yes there's an update to 38.0.5 released today, so the notification was probably genuine. to be completely sure, you can always go to the firefox menu ≡ > help (?) > about firefox dialog, where you can look for and apply an update directly...
