Currently, thunderbird deletes all emails in my trash after 30 days. Retention policy is set in the settings to never delete files, however it cleanses everything after about 30 days. How do i keep all messages in my trash folder on my hard drive indefinitely? Move any message you want to keep indefinitely to the Local Folders account in Thunderbird.

Since this is gmail, have you looked at the account settings on google's gmail website? There may be settings there that affect the expiry of older messages, regardless of what Thunderbird is set to do.
