Hello,

Is there an easy way to reset a preference which appears as 'user set' in Firefox about:config?

We have introduced a preference with a value in mozilla.cfg. This preference appears as 'user set' in about:config. The issue is that the preference stays unchanged even after deleting its entry from mozilla.cfg. (it is probably stored in prefs.js)

The way to remove is to manually reset it to default (right-click and reset). The problem is that I have many PCs to fix on the network, so manual method is not good enough. I also would like to avoid editing directly the prefs.js file stored in the profiles folder.

Is there any other way? like a command line or something like GCLI commands (pref reset), that I could run as a one time script on all pcs on the network?

Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tom.

As far as I know, there is no other alternate way to reset an individual preference in the about:config.

If you want all of the preferences to be the same on all of your computers that you are working on, you could configure one computer and then copy the prefs.js file onto all other computers.

Thank you Wesley. This does not really solve my problem. I cannot overwrite prefs.js on all PCs on our network as this would erase all custom user settings. Just need to restore to default one parameter.

I need an something like the "Pref reset" function which I can type in the Developer toolbar console, but applicable on all PCs. Something that I could launch in a form of a script.

Any ideas? Many thanks, Tom.
