When I try to send email I get this message and, worst of all, emails I have spent time writing (one took me nearly an hour!) disappear altogether! I've searched all folders, sent, drafts, junk, deleted, but no sign of my precious emails! Please can this problem be solved!

How did you get into a situation where you're using an IP address rather than a DNS name?

Who is your email provider?

Hmm, ok, hetzner.de

If they have provided you a domain then I'd expect you to be able to use it in your email settings.

I haven't! This only happens on Thunderbird. My email address is my DNS name.
