OK. I have to concede - I'm obviously a plonker! I (nearly) like Thunderbird, - but not quite. In the left hand column I see my email address (in bold type); Inbox; Drafts; Sent; Archives; Deleted; Local Folders (in bold type) which contains:- Inbox, and Outbox. In the section relating to my email address, under 'Sent' I can see a list of my sent mails. Opening 'Archives' I can open '2016' I can see 7 emails, and clicking on them I can read them. Clicking Deleted 3 emails. Uner 'Local Folders' the Inbox just has 3 emails and a good number in the Deleted folder. There seems to be no rhyme or reason regarding where Thunderbird puts stuff. It's filing system seems as bad as my own, and two such haphazard systems don't work well together! This is very frustrating as I'm happy with Firefox, and I expected to be similarly impressed with Thunderbird, but currently I feel like tearing my hair out - or rather would be if I had any hair! Help please before I try eM.

So long as a user has just one account, Local Folders looks a bit strange. "What's this other account for?", people ask, and "How can I delete it?"

Start adding more email accounts and you'll soon recognize that Local Folders is a separate and independent store where you can put things you really want to keep, and you can mix messages together from different accounts. It also is the home for the Outbox, and accounts for newsgroups and rss feeds.

Right now, I can't think of any good reason why you need to have anything in it.

So, your real working account; is it POP or IMAP? If POP, has it been set to use a communal storage, i.e. folders in Local Folders?

Here is an article on Local Folders:

None of this addresses the puzzling issue of where your Inbox contents have gone. You do have reason to think you should see new messages in it?
