This box comes up every time I start Thunderbird. Don't know how it got turned on nor how to turn it off. Thunderbird works fine other than that !!

So you are using beta software. It often does strange things as it is still in development. I suggest you install the current release version.

Do you have another email client like Microsoft Outlook that you are also using. My experience is that both will be making themselves the default on startup and so you see this messages every time you start Thunderbird. Outlook does not pop up a message, it just makes itself default. I guess others may do the same.

Everything points to Thunderbird as default but it still shows up. Outlook is through Internet Explorer. PS: My version of Thunderbird is 50.0b2...sorry.

Thank you, Matt. Thought maybe a fix for this was in the beta but the current version did it.

If is fairly simple to turn off the check.

On the toolbar > Options > Advanced >general and turn the option off.
