Today I was told to change my mailbox passwords by my web hosting company Pipeten.co.uk due to some email problems. Emails were then arriving at the Pipeten server as webmail but not being forwarded onto Thunderbird. I could not change my password in Thunderbird account settings so I deleted the account and tried to set up a new mail account with the new password. The new mailbox passwords are not recognized by Thunderbird, so I get the "configuration could not be verified - is the username and password wrong" message. I have manually configured everything correctly as far as I can tell but cannot solve this, please help.

You have shrunk your image so far it is unreadable.

Can you read the details on this picture?

The error message is "configuration could not be verified - is the username and password wrong" - Thunderbird won't recognize the changed mailbox passwords.

The error message is a bit misleading. It doesn't necessarily mean that either the username or password is actually wrong.

Does pipeten.co.uk host your scenariofilms.com domain - ah yes. These private domains are often tricky to set up. (I know, I have one of my own too.) :-(

Your settings all appear to be reasonable and rational.

In my case, I have to set up using the "real" (and ugly) email address offered by my registrar along with its own username. Once the account is set up, I can change the working email address to the one associated with my own domain. (Your account may well be better integrated than mine.)

For future reference, you can, in current version of Thunderbird, open the passwords manager and edit usernames and passwords via a right click or double-click. It's always been possible in Thunderbird to delete them, which is usually all you need, but this editing capability has been added in response to user requests.

Can you persuade this to work by going to "Advanced config" and completing the set-up by hand?

Have you updated Thunderbird or any security software recently? Either may result in your security software blocking Thunderbird's attempts to reach out to the mail server. Running your computer (not Thunderbird!) in its Safe Mode may show if this is the issue.

Thank you for this - I'll go through and investigate again.

I think I've got a part solution just by waiting for the "password prompt" - so far it seems to recognise the newly entered one, just a question of whether the system will remember it.

It's very useful to know about the password manager - sorry to be dumb, but where is this located please?
