Several different site's buttons or drop down menu selections just do not work sometimes or all the time. I have tried on multiple operating systems and its hit or miss. Sometimes it works sometimes not. the latest one is National Geographic's cable provider login link where you select a provider. It didn't work on windows 10 then it did after several refreshes and doesn't work at all on Linux. It works fine in other browsers.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I tried "Safe Mode" on Linux and it just hangs on start now.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.
