Is there any way I could know that an email has been marked for delivery status notification after sent?

I have sent few emails to few people few times mark them for delivery status notification while working on another project at the same time. Due to this I am unsure whether I marked all the emails for delivery status notification since I don't get notification from all recipients. So is there any way I could know that an email has been marked for delivery status notification after sent?

If you selected: 'Options' > 'Return Receipt' when composing a message it will add the "Disposition-Notification-To: ..." header to the message that requests the recipients email client to send a reply and specifies who to send the reply to. However, you can't rely upon this because many email clients and webmail let the user decide whether to ignore return receipts, or to decide on a case by case basis whether to allow the return receipt.

To see "Disposition-Notification-To: ..." header: Either: opt to show full headers

  • 'View' > 'Headers' > 'All'

OR read the message source

  • select email so it displays in 'Message Pane'
  • click on 'More' and select 'View Source' from the drop down options.

'Options' > 'Delivery Status Notification' There is no means of locating whether this option was selected as no headers are set. Most servers ignore it and you are more likely to get a DNS from your outgoing SMTP server that it handed the message onwards rather than the receiving server. So whether you get a response that it is useful is a hit and miss situation. I would not necessarilly rely on DSN.
