I just updated to the newest version of Firefox, and all of a sudden the awesome bar fails to recommend any sites. There's no drop down to recommend anything at all. I've checked my options and I have "Provide search suggestions" and "Show search suggestions in address bar results" both clicked.

Thank you.

You can check this pref on the about:config page and make sure it is default.

  • browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

Thanks for the suggestions, but none seem to work...

-I verified that "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" is on "default"

-Safe Mode didn't fix it, and I've always been on the Default theme

-When I did "verify integrity" it stated this:

> Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check database integrity > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task.

Try to check the Integrity in Firefox Safe Mode.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

To check whether the "places" system is functional:

  • Is Firefox saving new history as you visit pages?
  • Are you able to save any new bookmarks?

The problem exists in Safe Mode too.

Yes, Firefox is still saving new history, and I can save bookmarks.
