Restoring a session, either by setting as the default start up or when Firefox has crashed, it appears to restore the window geometry of the last session too.

The UI is drawn based on the old size when the new window is actually bigger/smaller.

Screenshot attached of when restoring an old session that was 33% of the screen an new window is 50% of the screen.

To work around this, I have to switch to fullscreen and back.

I'd like to know if there is a better way to solve this or if I should report a bug.

I think this may be your problem;

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf file.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
    \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

Note the *~/.mozilla/firefox/ is where all Profiles for Firefox is located so if you delete this folder without backing up first then you will lose your Bookmarks, Passwords, and such.

If you need to create a new Profile in testing, the safer way is with the ProfileManager.

The Nightly development channel gets checkins with two updates each day so sometimes you can encounter issues until fixed, finished or reverted. The Beta and Release channels are more stable.

Also changed one of the tags from Beta to Nightly.

Hi, FredMcD and James,

Thank you for your responses. I have tried this on Stable, Beta and Nightly with the same result. I made sure to test on a new, fresh profile each time.

My problem isn't that Firefox is not remembering window size and position, but rather it is remembering it and applying it on an existing window of different size.

I will open a bug report with my findings and some screencasts.
