Just installed new version, is a new .EXE supposed to open for EACH tab used?

more options

Recently installed version 59.0.1 and today a NEW Firefox,EXE process seems to be running with Each tab I open.

And upon launching Firefox I noticed 3 Firefox.EXE running because my home tab would not load. So I ended 2 Firefox.EXE, opened a new tab and closed the hung tab but more Firefox.EXE processes started immediately upon use again and each link/tab I try to open takes several minutes to load.

When I checked my Task Manager before writing this, 4 Firefox.EXE was running (screen shot attached) w 4 tabs,

Multiprocess Windows is set enabled to default 1/1 and I am using Windows 7, 32 bit

Yes it is operating correctly. The instances you see could be Sandbox icon in Task Manager if playing video/Sound or it could be add-ons. Firefox is now Multi-processor and Multi-thread browser and that is the icons you are seeing.

If having issues. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/15055/windows-7-optimize-windows-better-performance Use Windows Disk Cleanup weekly, use the option to Clean System Files monthly (sometime after MS Patch Tuesday, 2nd Tue in month). Defrag Monthly.

You can do this to lower the cores Firefox is using : You could try this please : Go the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Note : Acceleration is for your Video Card, monitor to see if need to turn back on. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/performance-settings

What you've described sounds normal. You may find 4-7 firefox.exe processes: 1-3 for the user interface and 1-4 for web pages (content processes). If you terminate a content process, Firefox will re-launch it -- this is how Firefox recovers from tab crashes.
