I understand that there is no Thunderbird app for Android but it would be tremendously helpful if I could sync or important my Thunderbird address books to my Android email client.

Can this be done? Is there an app that creates a Thunderbird-sympathetic platform to enable the import of my contacts?

You can export your Thunderbird address book by selecting Tools-Export in the address book window. How to get them in your phone is a question for your cell phone manufacturer or carrier.

I did find this add on to sync with gmail contacts. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/gcontactsync/ I have never used it so I do not know how well it works. The reviews are mixed.
