Every time I try to log into gmail, the gmail login screen does not remember previously used account names. I want it to. Most people do not want that list to appear and want to remove accounts. I want the accounts to appear and they will not.

I think as long as Google's cookies have not been cleared, it will have that information for the login page. Some reasons cookies might be cleared:

  • Using a private window -- when the last private window is closed, the private window cookie jar is emptied
  • Firefox is set to limit cookies to "session only" cookies -- this is the "Keep until: Firefox is closed" setting under Preferences > Privacy & Security > Cookies -- you can create a site Exception for persistent cookies ("Allow" cookies for google.com) in that same part of the Preferences page
  • Firefox is set to "Clear history when Firefox closes" and Cookies are selected in the "Settings" dialog for that feature -- this setting does not honor site exceptions, it nukes everything
  • Other software on your computer removes browser cookies

If clearing cookies didn't help then It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
