I am using the latest 64bit Thunderbird with my Gmail account via IMAP. This is not happening all the time but enough to really annoy me. I get the notification of a new email. I click it and Thunderbird shows Inbox (1) but there is nothing in there. I click on another folder and then click on Inbox again, it shows. I have repaired the Inbox already. Is this a bug that has a fix I can use or is it a known issue that is not fixed yet?

Really? Not a single person using Tbird and Gmail has this issue? It is still happening in the new version as well. I have even tried with a clean install of Tbird and a completely new profile. Still does it.

Does the same thing happen with the 32-bit version of TB? The 64-bit version, for Windows, is not widely used, so it's not surprising few, if any, have seen this issue. The 32 and 64-bit versions install by default to different directories.

I used 32 bit and first noticed the issue, so I tried 64 bit only to have the same issue.

It looks like a situation where there's a delay between the notification and the appearance of the message, possibly due to a security program or filter 'classifying' the message before releasing it for display. You could run in Windows safe mode to see if there's any 3rd-party interference.

I don't know if the gmail authentication is introducing a delay. When you click another folder and then click the Inbox again, it forces a resynchronization of the Inbox.

Exactly. I would try disabling all security to test it or using safe mode if it happened every time. I do not feel like leaving my pc with all security off or staying in safe mode for that long. I can exclude it from Malwarebytes and see if that fixes it.

After a clean install of Windows and then Tbird and also new profile, this did not cross my mind. Thank you and I will try the exclusion. I have a couple other programs that filter programs. I will exclude from all and see if it persists. Thank you so much, even it does not fix it. You helped me to try other things. :)

Confirmed, it is Tbird and Gmail. I had them both disabled/non filtering and the issue persisted. Will have to deal with clicking off the Inbox and then back on it, until either Gmail or Tbird fixes this.

There are a few items on performance problems here that relate to gmail accounts, i.e. 5. (All Mail) and possibly 13. (IMAP folders).

It's worth going through the list to see if any other factor could be causing this issue.

I will test those when I get an email today. I left open Tbird today and all emails were in the inbox like they should be when I got home. I am thinking there is a small delay sometimes which could be anything knowing the internet these days. Thanks again for your help and I will post back with results.

Well waiting for a bit did not help. Unless it takes over half an hour or longer. I have now used the link you posted and unsubscribed the All Mail folder, which subsequently removed it from Tbird altogether (not a big issue for me). All mails are showing in the Inbox upon arrival since I did this. Will see if it fixed it, in time.

Nothing will fix this, I have tried everything... and now have a completely annoying problem from trying all fixes. Now when I unsub to the All Mail it disappears and things work like I want (for a while). Then I have to restart Tbird and then I am getting double alerts for new emails, one for the Inbox and the second for the All Mail folder. So annoying. I understand Mozilla does not like Google and they compete, but this is so annoying I have to think about setting up a different email account and forwarding my gmail there. Not happy at all.

Don't know why you get notifications for All Mail. Besides unsubscribing, it may help to remove the mbox and msf as explained in the All Mail section here.

I think I had some luck. I unsubbed the All Mail and then before closing Tbird, I totally removed my gmail account. When I added it back the All Mail is not subbed/syncing and not even showing... even after multiple restarts of Tbird. The first few emails showed up fine and if some later do not, I can just click off and on the Inbox. Thanks for all your posts and help :)

It's working fine still. Thanks again sfhowes :)
