I try a so called search on Firefox for Android. I see the Google symbol appear and the browser switches over to google.com for the search. Can you please tell me what the point of having Firefox on my Android phone is if Google is just going to take over all the searches?

Sounds obvious to me that when tapping the Google symbol you end up on google.com. You can use different search engines though. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/manage-my-default-search-engines-firefox-android
