Hello. I'm getting constant notification "To improve video quality, you may need to install Microsoft’s Media Feature Pack" on the top of the page screen in Firefox. I can't fix this (and maybe I don't want/need). I have two buttons - close (x) and Learn more. No matter which button i press, this message pops-up after several seconds. It's really annoying. I don't get this message in Google Chrome or other browsers. How to remove this message? (not how to install/fix MS Media F Pack - just want to permanently remove this annoying message). Cheers!

I have never heard of the "MS Media F Pack". But the Windows 10 N and KN versions are well known for adding the "media" features that don't come with Windows 10 in certain areas of the world. And some articles I read back in the days of Windows 8 called the "N" Pack the Media Feature Pack.

It might be helpful to us if you could provide a screenshot of that message.

Actually the other way as the N and KN does not come with the "media" features that come with Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 for markets like US and Canada.

polkrasna5, do you have a N or KN edition of Windows 10?

You can also see if you fully support HTML5 players as https://www.youtube.com/html5/ is a easy way. If 2-3 are red then you may have a N or KN edition and need the Media Feature Pack from Microsoft as it provides the codecs needed.

Note that this is the decoder.noHWAcceleration.message ("platform-decoder-not-found").

Maybe check some media.decoder-doctor prefs on the about:config page if you want to hide the warning. You won't be able to play affected media files.

  • media.decoder-doctor.notifications-allowed

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
