I have logged into my gmail from one private window. Then I opened another private window to login to my other gmail account. I have found that the new private window is logged into my account (the first one). Should private windows work this way?

Yes, this is the same space. You have to use different containers for additional accounts.

Yes, that is how Private Browsing mode works.

Firefox has two two cookies jars, one for regular windows and one for all Private Browsing windows. Cookies in the Private Browsing cookie jar are shared among all PB Windows and Tabs.

If you want to login to multiple accounts then you can look at containers.

Note that containers do not work in Private Browsing mode.
