advertisement Tab popup

I visited a website that allows you to download youtube videos.

Every time I click in the box to paste the URL or hit the submit button, I get a new tab open with a ad in it. Some times it is an ad for a porn site.

I tried using opendns to fix the problem. I have not gotten far enough with them yet, but I don't want to block sites.(like get a new window that says this site was blocked is NOT good enough..) I want to block any tab from opening in the first place, unless I deliberately choose to open a new tab myself..

Can you add a feature?

  • Do not let this site open tabs or new windows
  • Do not let this site open links to other sites.
  • Do not let this site do infinite page forwarding..(site you can't back out of)
  • Do not let sites force you to agree to (cookie terms extortion)

Thanks in advance...

Ghostery Ad BlockerHey there, you can use any ad blocker add-on to solve this problem. Search in add-ons in Mozilla, ad blocker and download any one of them.

the site is qdownloader dot io

whenever you enter a link in the video URL text box on that site, you get a new tab. The same thing when you click the submit button.

The website gives a shortcut that works on chrome seemingly without problems. They say to just put io in front of the youtube video link, like this:

www.ioyoutube(the rest of the video url)

Doing that in chrome seems to work, but I have not tested it on Firefox.

I hope Firefox can get the troubles I listed fixed, because I don't want to use chrome anymore.

I am using the desktop version of Firefox on Fedora.. Thanks to everyone here..

Did the site install an add-on? Have you tried disabling it?

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here. Try limiting it to the extensions you expect to use in the next 8 hours and see how it goes.

Any improvement?
