As the subject says. I can still search for the firefox app and open it that way or I can start it from the START page that comes up when I hit the windows key on the keyboard. But I am not allowed to drag and drop it onto the taskbar as it says it's already there. It's sorta there I guess because FF is open right now while I type this and this open tab is indicated on the taskbar. If I were to close the FF window there would be no FF logo on the taskbar.

Right clicking the firefox app in the start list that comes up when I left click on the windows icon in the lower left or hit the windows key on my keypad gives me options to unpin FF from the start page or unpin it from the taskbar. I don't want to do that.

I did something to mess this up and I can't fix it. I want the FF logo back on my taskbar so when I power up the machine I can click on the logo in the taskbar to get to the browser with all my previously open tabs back.

The latest Windows 10 a Lenovo yoga laptop if it matters.

Thanks

OK, that sounds like a generic icon. Try reinstalling Firefox: Close Firefox then download using another browser from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release Save the file to somewhere convenient on your PC, then double click it to install Firefox.

Doing that should just overwrite your existing version and your data should not be affected.

Hi, try unpinning it from the Taskbar as you mentioned in your post, then with Firefox running, right click the Taskbar icon > Pin.

I unpinned FF from the task bar using the Start menu FF app right click drop down menu option. Visibly nothing changed. FF was open when I did it. The drop down menu for the FF app indicated that it was successfully unpinned from the taskbar. Leaving FF running, I pinned it back to the taskbar. It indicated that worked too, but again nothing visibly changed. Like right now I have a FF icon with the title of this tab that's open on my taskbar. It's been there unchanged throughout this experiment.

Any other ideas?

I hope I'm explaining this adequately.

I've been playing around and now I'm at the point where there is a blank page like icon on my taskbar that is the button to start FF. I right clicked the blank page icon. From the resulting popup menu I right clicked the ICON option and from the next popup menu chose PROPERTIES. From the resulting Firefox Properties popup window I chose the SHORTCUT tab and then I chose the CHANGE ICON option and from the popup window called Change Icon that came up. I highlighted the bird as I'm used to seeing. APPLIED it and hit OK.

In the end same blank page icon on the taskbar.

I did the above in administrator mode. Same thing.

I seem to remember there being more than a few with this blank page icon problem as I was looking for my problem in the beginning. I'm sure in one of those threads it was resolved. Lead me to the fix and I'll leave you kind folks alone.

I can do that. But...

"Should just overwrite" kinda scares me. I've got got dozens of those FF generated secure passwords that are incredibly complicated things. I've got a hundred bookmarked pages. If I lose that stuff I'm screwed. Can you be more reassuring?

Maybe I'm just being scared.

Well you could just wait for the next update which will do the same thing.

yknow, that makes sense. My apologies. Ok I'll do it. Thanks.

I closed FF. Opened Chrome and downloaded the latest FF from the website you included in your post to the desktop. That alone brought the fire fox icon back. So I stopped there.

Thanks again
