Receiving & Sending gmails in Mozilla Thunderbird

more options

I have similar problem to many on this page. Mozilla Thunderbird cannot receive or send emails from gmail accounts as at today, worked perfectly yesterday. I have followed instructions being - go to Account Settings & Outgoing Server (SMTP) and amend GoogleMail to "Google Mail - OAuth2.googlemail.com". Also go to each email address and under Server Settings change the Server Name to "OAuth2.googlemail.com. I then closed Thunderbird and reopened it and no emails were coming in. I also tried sending an email but received this error message "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) OAuth2.googlemail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again". PLEASE HELP AS I AM GOING CRAZY WITH THIS.

I had the same problem with my Gmail today . I updated to the latest version of Thunderbird (91) and changed the following settings. I did NOT change the server names. I am still using pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com.

1. Select the `Account Settings` menu item from the `Tools` menu.

2. Click on your Gmail account and choose `Server Settings`.

3. Change the `Authentication method` pop-up menu to `OAuth2`.

4. Click on your `Outgoing Server`. Click the `Edit` button and change the `Authentication method` pop-up menu to `OAuth2`.

That solved the problem for me.

My Gmail POP and SMTP stopped working today as well. I updated to Thunderbird 91 and changed the following settings. I did not change the server names, they are still pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com:

Thanks arandor. Your advice works, but I also removed one of my emails and re added it as a new email and that automatically installed the Authentication as OAuth2, but only in the Server Settings for the individual email and it left the outgoing server as smtp.googlemail.com (default).
