When I send emails a copy doesn't save to the sent folder. The last one saved is from January. There has always been a lag but now mails have stopped saving altogether. I removed the account (Gmail) and then re-added and the sent mails appeared, up to the ones I sent up to yesterday. However, the next time I opened Thunderbird, the next morning, the sent mails had disappeared, the last being January again.

Gmail's SMTP server always saves a copy of sent messages in the Sent "folder". This happens on the server side and as far as I'm aware, you cannot control this behaviour. If you are using IMAP access, then all messages that reside in the Sent folder on the server should show up in Thunderbird.

In Thunderbird's menu, go to Help > More Troubleshooting Information > Copy text to clipboard and paste it in your next reply.
