version 4.0.1 hangs and must be re-started. Never had this problem with earlier versions. Can I delete 4.0 and re-install earlier version without causing problems?

I get a "not responding" message in the title and usually the only way to fix this condition is to attempt to close & restart the browser. Also takes multiple attempts to close under these conditions. I would like to delete this version and re-install my earlier version of Firefox. Can this safely be done and are there any tricks to doing it?

Please do the following.

Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins and disable the one numbered 1.9.0009.1 This belongs to Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage which is not necessary to use Firefox.

If that doesn't fix the problem, see Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix

To revert to the previous secure version which is 3.6.17, please do the following:

  1. Go to Download Firefox v3.6.17 and download it to the desktop.

  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

After you complete the installation, go to the Plugins Check page and update where necessary.
