I created some App Tabs in a session of Firefox. When I closed and re-opened Firefox, the App Tabs weren't there. I have tried again multiple times with the same result.

Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the Browsing History when you close Firefox.

more options

I have Clear Recent History turned off, and it will not restore my previous session.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.

Another possibility is to use:

Greetings:

I just upgraded to 5.0.1 and created some much-needed App Tabs on my first new session. Unfortunately they all disappeared upon restart.

I tried again, this time pinning all my fav App Tabs, but now with the option "Show my windows and tabs from last time" selected (as suggested by cor-el). I quit and restarted, and I'm happy to say that the App Tabs are still there. Thanks for the tip, cor-el.

Btw, mac users like myself will want to navigate "Firefox>Preferences..>General" in order to configure this.

Hmm. Okay, it may have worked the first time I tried it, but it hasn't worked since. =(

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

Also make sure that Firefox closes properly.

See "Hang at exit":

hey, if u use mac, after "pin"-ing your tab, go to Firefox tab and press quit firefox instead of using the shortcut command+D. it works for me, even when u restart, clear browsing history.. hope it works too

For anyone on Windows 7, I have a solution. I'm not familiar with other operating systems, so if someone could interpret this for others, I'd be grateful. Now, for anyone having problems with Firefox (any version, as far as I know) saving app tabs, check the things listed above, like Firefox saving history, ect. If those arent the problem (like if everything was working fine before, and you havent changed any settings), then do the following:

Make sure Firefox is closed. Now open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), and go to processes. If you see Firefox.exe (or anything with the description as Firefox), click on it and end that process. Then re-open Firefox and you should have your app tabs back.

This is also a fix for people having a problem with not being able to open Firefox (getting an error message that is something like "Firefox is already running. To use Firefox, close any Firefox applications that are running."
