http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-updating-firefox?s=drop-down+back&as=s says

o The back button drop-down menu can be accessed by clicking and holding on the back button. o The stop and refresh buttons are combined into one button on the right end of the location bar.

It then says "Not crazy about this arrangement? No problem. It's your browser, make Firefox work the way you do. See How do I customize the toolbars? for more about customizing buttons and toolbars. " Needless to say, I can't find anything there about how to get the drop-down arrows - which are how I like them - back on (by) the back/forward buttons, nor how to get back separate stop and refresh buttons.

How to get the drop-down back on the Back/Forward buttons

I believe you are misreading the directions, they refer to the order on toolbars, and the directions for rearranging are immediately below that statement as well as the reference to order in the picture above.

I removed the drop-down myself before it was part Firefox just because it wasted space. You can add it back with a Style or an Extension.

I'm not misreading the directions, they are badly written: the "Not crazy about this arrangement?" question immediately follows a set of three bullet points, one of which is theremoval of the dropdown.

Thanks for the link to the addon - fetched and loaded, working as it should; like most of the reviewers of the plugin (39 out of 43 favourable), I find it beyond belief that I have to use a plugin to get back functionality that was apparently removed "because other browsers had removed it". It would have been fair enough if its removal had been made optional - I can see some might prefer the new method - but such changes without option are irritating.

Thanks again.
