Firefox is not letting me stay signed in to either Google or my email even though I have checked the "remember passwords" box.

One of my settings was changed so that now Firefox won't let me stay signed in on sites. For example, now when I hit Hotmail in the toolbar it displays the sign-in page even if I have checked the "stay signed in" box. I have made sure that the "remember passwords" box is checked off in the options section under Tools. However, it still doesn't let me stay signed in. Another example is Google--even though I have signed in, the next time I launch Firefox it gives me the generic Google home page instead of my customized page.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
