I have multiple tabs open on a particular window. There is only one open window because I don't like having more than one window. Occasionally, when i click on one of my tabs that are open, it pops out into a new window. How can I disable this or at least put it back onto the original window?

That is the tear-off/tear-away tabs feature in Firefox. A small downward movement when clicking a tab can cause the tab to tear-off and into a new window. You can drag the tab back into the original window from the new window.

To stop the behavior, you can install this Add-on:

When a web site specifies dimensions for a window, i.e., it is more of a dialog than a new page, then I think Firefox will ignore your preference for a new tab and open a new window. (Not sure whether there is a workaround for that. Maybe an add-on?)

You can drag tabs between windows by clicking and dragging on the tab and dropping it on the end of the tab bar in another window. (This might not be available in some dialog windows, and you might not want to always display a tab when there is only one of them.)
