Bookmarks dead Firefox 6.0.2
After upgrade to Firefox 6.0.2 worked ok for awhile then all bookmarks went dead. The entries are still there (although custom icons aren't - just generic icons). When mouse hovered over a bookmark it shows correct url but when clicked does not go to site. Cannot restore to earlier bookmarks. Notice new bookmark called "New Folder" which I did not create and which has no url. When it's properties are clicked a blue header bar appears and nothing else. I cannot find this "New Folder" in my system. Have checked for virus, malware etc. Nothing found. Don't have these problems with IE or Chrome. Running Windows XP Pro with Firefox as default browser.

Forgot to mention when I click Properties on any bookmark the strange blue header appears - nothing else. Pics below show the mysterious blue header and the New Folder entry I did not create. Says folder is empty.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks. No difference. Bookmarks still dead. "Show all bookmarks" shows no bookmarks. Can't restore previous bookmarks. When a bookmark is copied from the Bookmars Toolbar, for example, the link copies correctly and is active. If I right click a bookmark and ask for properties I get the mysterious blue bar. My antivirus/malware finds nothing but I'd say a bug got in and ate my bookmarks. Left the skeletons - no meat! On the verge of deleting Firefox 6 and trying for a clean install and then import bookmarks from IE or Chrome where they are still functional.
An absolute nightmare!!! To solve dead bookmarks had to remove Firefox 6.0.2 and then made fresh install. was able to save some bookmarks from IE and Chrome but there were none to save from the previous Firefox installation. What's more, in Firefox 5 when the bookmarks link was clicked I got a complete list of my bookmarks. It now has me show all bookmarks in a cobbled, jumbled screen that requires me to browse about - hunt and peck! If I'd known this was going to happen I'd have stayed with the older version. What a nightmare!! Firefox 6 should have been designated a beta, Terrible!
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
