back and foward buttons have been working intermittently for a week.
As of the past few days, the back and forward buttons at the top left of the screen have been working just once in a while. There is now an orange box that says "Firefox" with a drop down at the extreme top left and when that is there these buttons don't work. I think it started after an auto update but I have been trying to download the latest versions of Firefox and it hasn't solved the problem. Yesterday back/forward worked, today no. Any ideas? Can I download an earlier version of Firefox to get these to work? It is hard to browse if you cant use the back/forward buttons.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks Cor-el. But I am still having problems. Yesterday I could use my back/forward buttons on the original Mozilla web page I opened, but not if I opened multiple pages. Tabs on the original page worked fine too.
Today - no. No back/forward buttons on anything. I don't understand it, or why it works one day and does not the next.
