I lost my bookmarks on my desktop (HDD crash) They were synched to my Droid, however, and I would like to recover them FROM my droid, back to my desktop.

Perhaps I can use sync? and reverse sync? Can I choose which direction to sync? device to desktop vs. desktop to device?

If you know your user name and password for Sync you can install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/aboutsynckey/ to get the last part you need to access your sync account.

Then you should be able to follow https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer

I am a little hesitant to give this try. What I am really interested in is accessing the bookmarks.html file on my phone and exporting it. That would be infinitely easier (if it is possible, that is) than jumping through all the sync hoops and then hoping that I don't wipe-out my mobile bookmarks (which I want to put onto my desktop) because sync assumed I wanted to "go the other way"

If sync is my only option, then that's what I'll have to do. I think my original post wasn't too clear on that point... sorry

Firefox hasn't used the bookmarks.html for storing bookmarks since the Firefox 2 version. Firefox 3+ versions use places.sqlite for storage and a bookmarks-yyyy-mm-dd.json file for backups and json format for sync.

Firefox Sync doesn't work from one device to another directly, the data which is transferred to a device is on the sync server.

That's as far as I can help you, I don't use Firefox Mobile. kbrosnan works with Sync, so his advice should be followed.

You would need a rooted phone to access your bookmarks database (places.sqlite).

Well, I hemmed and hawed and finally decided to go the sync route. I will tell you it was probably the most aggravating and unnecessarily complex procedure I have had to endure. I honestly believe I would have been better off rooting my phone, searching the directories and copying the file to my computer.

First off the addon only works with ff 8.0.1

I have ff 6.0.2 on my droidx and there is no ff update available.

There is a sync option on my phone but the instructions on the Mozilla help sync pages are redundant and vague. It is comparable to repeating yourself to a foreigner in the hopes that he will magically understand you the second time.

I am only venting because this shouldn't have been so difficult, and I totally appreciate the time both kbrosnan and the-edmeister put in to point me in the right direction.

In the end, I did recover my bookmarks, but I am so p'd off that I almost don't care, and an export bookmarks option would have made my life 1000k easier
