Does Firefox 8 on Mac OS X STILL eat up a ton of memory for anybody else?

Mac OS X 10.6.8, MacBook 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB memory. When I open Firefox and begin using it, after a couple of days, the memory usage climbs to > 1 GB. I then have to restart Firefox, and the process starts all over again. I was under the assumption that Firefox 8 had better memory usage than previous versions, but I have not experienced this.

I've been doing some research, and it appears that Google Chrome may be the way to go. I use to really love Firefox, but it has become bloatware, eating up way too much memory. So sad, Firefox was the one that freed me from Internet Explorer and Safari.
