When I open a new tab I wood like it to open to my home page
When I add or open a new tab it comes up as a blank page waiting for a site address to go to. I would like it to pop up with a specific search engine page when I open the tab.

Hi flmeade,
This isn't something that Firefox does by default. There a lot of cool add-ons though that will do exactly this.
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox. It will show you how to use add-ons to enhance Firefox.
There are probably a lot that will do what you are asking for. I use New Tab King.
