Firefox 11 worked fine. Firefox 12 seemed to install too fast. Now, when opening Firefox, bookmarks don't load in sidebar, even though the top of the sidebar says "bookmarks." Home pages won't load on opening Firefox---only a new tab. Clicking on the little house icon opens the home pages. Display closed tabs icon is dark and Undo closed tabs won't work. Sometimes the toolbar with File, Edit, View etc goes so dark it virtually disappears. I have Vista OS. Reinstalling Firefox 12 didn't help. Is there a fix, or can I go back to Firefox 11?

It is set at default. Not the problem.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Thank you cor-el.

Last night, I tried installing Firefox 12 over the first 12, without uninstalling Firefox. That didn't fix anything. So, I called my computer guy, who came over this morning. He saved all my personal stuff like bookmarks, Scrapbook plus, etc using MozBackup. Then he uninstalled Firefox completely, and did a clean Firefox 12 install. It did the same thing---everything was messed up like before.

Fortunately, last night, I had Googled and found the download for Firefox 11, which had worked gloriously for me. My computer guy uninstalled 12, installed 11, brought my personal stuff over from MozBackup, and now everything works again like it did before. Maybe Firefox 12 doesn't work with Vista 64 bit, or maybe there was a compatibility issue with one or more of my add-ons---for example, tab mix plus. Any way, I'm happy, now that I have Firefox 11 back. I'm not going to try Firefox 12 again.  :-) Funny, though, I had also updated to Firefox 12 on another PC of mine but it runs Windows XP---no problem at all there. Who knows.

Don't know if this is your issue, but I resolved the same issue by uninstalling the "BlackSheep" extension.

Thanks, but I never had the "BlackSheep" extension. I started in Safe Mode, which should have disabled the extensions, with no change. I really don't know if the problem was with one of my extensions (which, most likely, I would not have wanted to sacrifice, any way). Maybe Firefox 12 and Vista 64-bit don't get along. Don't know. I solved my problem by backing up all my personal info, bookmarks, ScrapbookPlus, etc on MozBackup, uninstalling Firefox 12, and reinstalling Firefox 11. I'm very happy now that everything is as it was before 12 came along and ruined my day. :-)
