I did have the problem of, when I clicked on the plus sign to open a new tab in Firefox I would get the "babylon search engine". I got ride of part of the problem by cleaning up the about:config file. But there is about 5 lines connected to the "bablon search engine" still in the about:config file that I can't del. I have tryed everything I know of to delete those lines. Nothing has worked. I can post a jpg screen capture file of the "about:config" file if the sys will let me. Any ideas out there?

Hi Steve,

About config info can be cut and pasted to include in a reply. Also you should be able to attach a screenshot if you wish. (I think now it even compresses images if you send something too big) see

Possibly you are unable to delete these because some software/malware is recreating them directly, or by modifying another Firefox file. Have a look at

The reset option is mentioned. It is quick and easy. Not sure I personally like the idea. At a future date it is likely to change to deleting the old profile information automatically. I prefer to know what I have and have not saved, or deleted.

Please post back to say how you get on

Cheers John

Same problem. I remove the lines from prefs.js. Next time I start FF the lines re-appear.

--- edit --- Ah ha! Solution!

  • There was also a file named "user.js" and it repeated the same Babylon entries.
  • Closed FF.
  • Deleted all the Babylon lines from user.js. It was then blank, but I saved it anyway.
  • Deleted all the Babylon lines from user.js
  • Now it is gone when I look at about:config.
  • I probably have to do something similar for Chrome and IE.
  • Note: the software HyperCam2 installed the Babylon toolbar and other unwanted items.

--- end edit ---

I have removed these programs in windows 7:

  • Babylon Toolbar
  • Babylon Installation (Name? it is close to that)
These are the "babylon: records in prefs.js

Hi Guys,

If you are unsure of about:config then remove the Babylon curse easily and safely as follows:

1. Download "10bit uninstaller" - this uninstaller will display and remove installs not visible to the windows control panel uninstaller

2. Run it, choose the Babylon tool-bar and click uninstall. It will ask you to reboot your browser, do so and then close the browser

3. Still in 10bit, click remove the leftover from the registry and action it

4. If the Babylon icon is on your computer (this is the link to the Babylon silent install file), right click the icon and "Open file location"

5. Delete every file and the Babylon folder

6 Pour a glass of win and toast a satisfying job!
