I'm using a Google webfont on a client's wordpress site and in IE9 and Google Chrome everything looks great. But in FF 14.01 the font looks horrible.

I've started FF in safe mode... no change. I've updated FF plugins. I've verified cleartype is on. I've checked it on another system. I've set Windows screen size to 100%. I've inspected the CSS element and it is picking up the font.

I've searched the internet and have found a number of posts for FF font rendering looking ugly. Is this just the way FF works or is there a solution?

First check that you aren't zooming the page and try to reset the page zoom on pages that are affected.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

You can try this extension to see if you can improve things.

Hi @cor-el... I checked and the page is not zoomed, but I went through the reset process anyway with no difference noted. If I shirnk the page several times with ctl- then the font starts to look better, but also much smaller.

I also loaded the Anti-aliasing Tuner and tried a couple of options without any noticable effect. I'm attaching a screenshoot side-by-side comparison of the way it looks in FF14 vs. IE9.

The Jura font seems to be working fine here.

Do other fonts have the same problem?

As Safe mode didn't help means that it is not a problem with hardware acceleration, but rather with rendering the fonts.

Are there any aliasing settings in your graphics display driver?
