I have google as my search engine which opens up on the start up page with the google search engine. When I go to search again the grey globe appears in the navigation bar and not the google symbol. I just want to keep google as my only search engine.

The gray globe just shows you are connected to an unsecured (non-SSL) website, it doesn't have anything to do with Google or not.
