This seems to happen only with YouTube video pages. When I click on a video on my home page, which loads fine, FF will take me to the video page and when the video starts playing, the tab text shows "connecting" with the spinning dot. Even if the video is paused, it still says "connecting". The video pages never actually connect, which means I cant follow links or use any functions on that page. For example, once the video page goes into the "endless connecting", I can't click on related videos, I can't leave comments, I can't add the video to my favorites. I can't even go back to the homepage via the YouTube logo or use the back button. This seems to have started happening after the newest version of FF was installed (v18). Is there something causing this that I'm missing? Or is this a FF problem?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried the clear cache and cookies first, but the problem still occurred. I then started in safe mode and tried YouTube, and the problem went away. I then restarted in normal mode and disabled any extra plugins and addons (Search bar, and an old version of the Java console) and the problem seems to have been fixed. I now have full control over video pages and YouTube video pages connect like the should. Thanks again, Jake Aufschlager
