Firefox Theme is stuck on Default

My firefox accidentally got covered in Yahoo toolbars and such from an accidental software installation. After I disables and removed everything, Firefox stopped showing my themes, and hasn't shown any theme besides default. I've reset it to factory settings, restarted my computer, and even deleted and re-downloaded Firefox, yet the theme still won't show, It lights up on the add-on page and says it's enabled, but it's not there, any suggestions?

This is just a hunch, and it's a bit experimental, so if this is completely off base, please let me know.

As you probably noticed, Firefox 20 has changed how private browsing works. If you have your privacy setting on "Never remember history" then you automatically start up in private mode. There's a bug in Firefox 20.0 in automatic private mode that you cannot change your theme.

If you want to be in automatic private browsing, then as far as I know, there's no solution at this time. It should be fixed in a future release.

If you do not intend to start up in automatic private browsing, then try the following: open this tab and try changing your settings a little bit.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy

Change the "Firefox will" drop-down from Never remember history to Use custom settings for history.

Uncheck the box for "Always use private browsing mode"

In order to get the change to stick and not revert to "Never remember history" you might also need to modify one of the other settings. For example, to accept cookies and Keep until "I close Firefox".

Once you get the privacy setting changed and it stick between views of the dialog, exit Firefox and start it up again.

Does that help at all?

You're hunch was correct, good sir! The theme is working again, but it will only show if you set it to not be on constant private browsing in the options under Custom Settings (though you can just check for it not to remember your stuff). Thanks a bunch!
