I receive attachments in my email account with Microsoft .docm and/or .docx and am unable to download the converter for MS. I've opened them in the past (with Firefox), but have been unable to so recently. Is there an add-on or extension available to be able to read these document types???

First, please update to Firefox 24 (you may need to install Windows updates to be able to do that, you should do that too).

There isn't an add-on to view .docx in Firefox :/
