I have set http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Donna&state=TX&site=BRO&textField1=26.1689&textField2=-98.05&e=0#.Uru47vv3HCM as my home page. However when I click the home icon I get

The requested URL /mapclick.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Apache/2.2.15 (Red Hat) Server at forecast.weather.gov Port 80.

If I click on my bookmark for this page it loads just fine. I have set & reset all the settings I can think of. What gives? It works fine in Seamonkey but refuses to load in Firefox rel 26. It used to work, but that was several versions ago about 22 I think.

Hi

I try to set the url as my home page and it works fine. Even the home icon also is working.

Try setting the main web page as your home page. http://forecast.weather.gov, and see if it works.

You may have an extension or possibly security software that changes the link to lowercase and prevents it from working (mapclick.php versus MapClick.php).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Same result if I shorten the search to forecast.weather.gov SORRY I didn't go far enough back from the current page setting.

If I go through a google search, find forecast weather gov, Then, I can set it as a home page & get it to load from the home icon. So the blockage is in the selection of city/state/zip etc.

I started in safe mode : same result. I have default theme set. I disabled ADBlock Plus All with the same result. forecast.weather.gov will not load as home page in Forefox.

As a red herring maybe: Seamonkey has the same settings and it works fine. This is not a show-stopping thing but it bugs me not to be able to explain it.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

My firefox is cleared of history, cache, cookies at every exit. No passwords are stored on any site with No exceptions.

I delete and reset the weather location bookmark everytime I move. This 'blockage' started about 3 releases of Firefox ago.

When you posted the link for http://forecast.weather.gov, the link goes to http://forecast.weather.gov/weather.gov, a bad page.

Try this; Start at the main weather page. Then, link by link, go to the page you want. Once you are there, bookmark the page so you don't lose it. Then Firefox Options > General. Under the Home Page settings, click Use Current.

That is exactly the procedure I went through. This will allow me to use it as a homepage as long as Firefox remains open. I can return from other pages using the home icon and it works fine. HOWEVER, as soon as I close firefox it won't load. I did notice that the upper case letters are somehow turned to lower case for the location arguments of the page in the current page entry and they don't get changed in the bookmark entry.

When was the last time you scanned the computer for viruses? Also;

========================

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

I use Norton Internet Security. The latest scan was today.

What about mal-ware?

more options

Both Norton and MalwareBytes scan today. Nothing in either log.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Norton Internet Security anti-virus. The homepage will load correctly in Windows safemode with networking; In Windows safemode the upper case letters in the homepage entry stay in upper case - and the page loads correctly the first time I open Firefox in 'normal' mode. Subsequent opens in normal mode won't load. What happens in Firefox closing that would cause the uppercase letters in the home page entry to be changed to lower case? as that seems to be the difference. I disabled all the addons, extensions and use the default theme in Firefox

more options

You can try to contact Norton for support in case this software is causing this issue with changing the case of links.

more options

I have shutdown Norton & it doesn't make any difference.

For now, just use http://forecast.weather.gov/ until someone comes up with something. BTW, can this page be set up for information you want? If you need more, you can always use your bookmark.

This is the option I am going with. It doesn't explain it but maybe the issue will go away as mysteriously as it arrived. Thanks for all your suggestions.
