Using Twitter, none of the small images load proper and instead show a small box with 4 character in it, 2 on top of the other. I have had this happen on a few other random websites but mostly on Twitter. Anyone else have this problem?

I am using a Mac with OS X 10.9.1 and Firefox 27.0.1

Those missing icons are actually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can see by the little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and reset this pref if it shows as user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar
