This isn't so much a question as a link to direct others to the correct solution/work-around.

My wife's Mac Mini with OS X 10.6.8 was "auto updated" to Flash Player 13.0. Immediately she began to have issues with the plug-in crashing in Firefox. I worked for about 2 hours deleting and reinstalling FP 13.0. I checked and verified the disc and all the usual "housekeeping tricks to no avail.

Long story short: FP 13.0 doesn't work with Firefox (or apparently I.E.). The work-around is to uninstall FP 13.0 and reinstall FP 12.0. Here is a link to another recent thread to make this happen:

The response is from a forum moderator. And it works.

FYI: if it is your usual practice to let Adobe automatically update itself, you might be better served by selecting the second radio button and have Adobe simply notify you there is an update ready to install. You only get this option when you install Adobe updates. I never let any software "auto update" itself ...and this is a perfect reason why.

To summarize things:

There have been issues reported with the 13.0.0.182 version of the Flash plugin crashing on some older Mac computers due to the compiler generating incompatible code.

The only way to recover is to uninstall the Flash 13 version and revert to an older Flash version and wait for Adobe to release an update that addresses this issue.

You can either install the latest Flash 11.7 version that has the latest security updates (may not work with Safari) or the last Flash 12 version that didn't get the security updates Flash 13 has.

Hey All, thanks for the responses.

The problem with Adobe FlashPlayer 13.0 is it has a bug in it. This "bug" is specific to Macs made between 2006 - 2008. Here is the official word on this from the folks at Adobe:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1447282

You can do all the common things you've suggested and still end up with FlashPlayer 13.0 crashing. It is not anything the user can fix. Until Adobe comes out with a new version of FP13, the workaround is to uninstall FlashPlayer 13.0 using the uninstall program from Adobe (you get it off their FlashPlayer website ...just type "flashplayer uninstall" in your search engine and you'll find it) and then reinstall FlashPlayer 12.0. I believe the uninstall program wipes all traces of the previous version of FlashPlayer so you get a clean install of the other version.

Bottom line: if your Mac was born between 2006 - 2008 you're gonna have issues with FlashPlayer 13.0 (it crashes immediately). The only thing to do is uninstall 13 and reinstall 12.

Thanks again for your help :-D

P.S. My goal here was to add fodder to the search engine results so others might have an easier go finding that "Eureka" moment rather than tearing their hair out and cussing the likes of Adobe and Mozilla. It took me a good while to find the solution to the problem. Hope this makes it just a bit easier for the next guy.

I also had a problem with Flash Player 13. I'm running Windows Vista with Firefox 28. I uninstalled Flash Player 13 and went back to Flash Player 12 and the problem went away.

Note that Adobe has released the 13.0.0.201 Flash player version for Mac to address this issue, so you can install this version.
