Command ALT+F+L used to highlight the current web addr, allowing me to type a new addr, without using the mouse. Since today's update I can't any longer.

Prior to the update my Firefox did today, when I was in a window, I could type ALT+F+L and the address in the address bar would be highlighted, allowing me to then type a new address (and then get to avoid using the crappy touchpad on my laptop). But since the update I can't do it. Maybe the "Open Location" choice in the "File" menu is gone forever, but if anybody knows a different keyboard shortcut I could use to open a new page in the current window, I'd love to know.

The best I've been able to manage is ALT+F+T to open a new tab, which then has the cursor blinking in an empty address bar, but I'd much rather pull this off without having to open a new tab.

Thanks for any assistance you could provide.

hello danielxjoseph, F6 puts the focus to the address bar: Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Firefox tasks quickly

That's great that you replied so quickly! Thanks so much.

But I'm going to be a PITA and ask if you know of any other solutions?

Two reasons: The first is I've to this new Lenovo Yoga that has turned the Function keys into something akin to also-rans. They all have other functions, and so now to use them you have to hold down a key marked "Fn" next to the Windows key, and then push the F6 key, and stupid as it sounds it's kind of an awkward combo to pull off.

The other issue is that the computer has a touch screen, so when I'm reaching for the F6 key, invariably my knuckle ends up hitting the screen, and then I'm clicking on something I don't want to be clicking on.

Do you know if there's another way to put the focus on the task bar?

Many thanks!

  • sorry, "address bar," not "task bar."

yes, Alt + D and Ctrl + L should work as well...
