hi, does this happen when you open a pdf file from a folder or when you open a pdf file during your web browsing ?

Hi thanks for coming back. it happens when I open a file from a folder. It opens firefox and then opens the file. Previously it opened direct on my own computer and not the net. very frustrating. thanks and wait for your reply

i think this issue is due to file association. you should take a look in your computer's settings.

if you have any problem do not hesitate.

Thanks for that but you are dealing with someone who is not all that computer literate and so would appreciate if you could give me few more step by step instructions. Your help is good news

1. Right-click any PDF file. 2. Select Properties in a menu that opens. 3. Select Change... next to "Opens with: Firefox". 4. Select a program you want to use to open PDF docs. 5. Make sure that "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked. 6. Click OK.

hi, upwinxp is right. but you can also do this way.

1. Right-click on pdf file. 2. Select "Open with". 3. Select in the list the program to use.

As upwinxp said, at this step make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked.

4. After that, click on OK.

Maybe it's a little easier.

If there is currently no file handler application that handles PDF files then the Firefox updater/installer registers Firefox as the default application to handle PDF files and thus they get a Firefox icon.

You can right-click a PDF file in Windows Explorer and use open with to select another application like Adobe Reader that can handle PDF files.
