When I open a new tab, it sometimes shows 5X3 15 sites. sometimes it shows only 4X2 8 sites. so annoyed.

more options

when I star firefox, it shows nicely a 5 row 3 column tiles, or say, 15 sites I pinned.

but when I open a new tab, it only shows 4X2, only 8 sites shows up. and I have to use keyboard and mouse to zoom out, and then I can see the all 5X3 tiles, 15 sites.

It's really annoyed to zoom out every single time.

So please fix it!

Many users seem to have this same problem, that the "site-specific zoom level" is not being remembered for the new tab page. I'm not sure anyone has figured out why it is being forgotten.

This thread has a couple add-on solutions you could try, particularly if you find the other text on the page hard to read when you zoom out: I love the tiles of my most used pages which come up when I open a new tab. 9 used to show up but now there are only 3. How can I get the others back.

Edit: Fixed the link

A possible cause is that the about:newtab page is constructed in the background and shifted in place when requested. If that cached version is reused then you lose any zooming made to the copy in the current tab.

You can try to toggle the browser.newtab.preload pref on the about:config page in case of issues with remembering the page zoom of the about:newtab page.

Bug 1031661 - when newtab is set on preload , zoom level is always on 100%

Hello cor-el. I have observed this behaviour. About:NewTab does not remember the zoom level set. Can we hard-code it someway until the bug is fixed?

I tested toggling the about:config setting and no change.

Oops, didn't realize the link in my reply was broken. I fixed it, in case you're looking for an add-on solution: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1033688#answer-659285

Thankyou I tried both the suggested solutions of this old post, but both are ugly in 38. I like how my tiles look but would just like it to remember 9 is my preferred number (so zoom level is 30).

If there is any updated fixed, that would be most helpful, until bug fixed.

from old post: Chosen Solution That was a change in Firefox 33.0, where the "tiles" are larger and of a fixed size. To see more tiles zoom out as necessary to see all your tiles.

To really "fix it" you'll need an add-on such as New Tab Tools. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/

Or the Stylish add-on along with the appropriate User Style. https://userstyles.org/styles/106326/shrink-new-tab-thumbnails

Unfortunately, I don't think a custom style rule can successfully emulate the zoom feature, and I'm not sure a userscript can trigger it. Some kind of extension probably is required to do that.
