Firefox won't open, keeps telling me that it is already running
I have tried everything in the trouble shooter and none of it worked. In the profile folder I would uncheck the read only box, close it and reopen it and it would be checked again.

Did you check the Processes tab in the Windows Task Manager for hanging Firefox or plugin-container processes?

Try to use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear any personal data?
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Right click on it, and select Open New Window. Sometimes this works. If it opens, close it by Menu > File > Exit.
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}
When I open the task manager firefox isn't listed, and yes its on my taskbar but doesn't give me the option to open a new tab. The only 2 options it gives me is to open firefox and unpin from task bar.
