Since installing Windows 10 I find that if I download a pdf file from the internet Adobe Reader DC freezes completely and I have to re-boot to overcome this. PDF files on my computer open OK. (Firefox says my Adobe Reader plug-in is out of date but I understand this is a false alert)

It seems that you have two Adobe PDF plugins available for Firefox. Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.5.5" Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 15.8.20082

Try getting rid of the older version and see if that solves your problem.
